ATM. There is one at the top of the street, at the Rockport National Bank. Take a right out of our inn and it's about 250 yards on the left.

Barber. Walter Julian on Main street has been cutting hair for more than 50 years and is very good at it.

Beach towels.   We have beach towels that you can use. Front beach is at the bottom of our street and it is very safe, plus it has new public restrooms and there in Nate's Bistro just across from the beach if you feel peckish. Other beaches. Crane beach is lovely and in Ipswich. Map and directions.

Boston. We have the commuter rail at the top of our street and you can buy a ticket on the train and it takes you to North Station, in the heart of Boston. There you can pick up the subway system. Schedule.

Bottle opener. There is one in the draw of the buffet, just put it back afterwards please. There are glasses in the glass cabinet to the right of the buffet.

Breakfast. This starts at 8.30 for hot items, everything cold is available whatever time you are up. The cold items are: toasting breads, bagels, fresh fruit, yogurts, juice, plus coffee to make in the French press. The butter,  cream cheese and jam, milk and cream will be in the small fridge.  We will do breakfast till about 10.15 or a bit later. The French press is a classic way of brewing coffee, and we leave out the press with coffee grounds in a 12 cup carafe. Just boil the hot pot and pour into the carafe. You don't need to plunge the carafe all the way unless that's your preference; just press the plunger down till there is enough coffee to pour above the filter, pour and enjoy. Cream and milk are in the small fridge.

We do a hot dish each morning and bring it out to the buffet; you just help yourself and we just keep refilling everything!

Checking your email. If you don't have your own laptop we can give you access to one that you can use to check your email or print boarding passes. If you have your own laptop, we have wireless access and you can get the network password if you ask Tobey.

Cookies and tea. We have a wide variety of teas that you can make and a cookie jar that we keep filled. In the Summer we put out lemonade in the afternoon and we will do fresh coffee for you if you ask, and we are around, which one of us is, most times.

Convenience stores. There is the IGA in the Whistle stop mall at the top of our street, next to Rite aid ( Map  )    plus a Cumberland Farms on Railroad Ave.( Map )

The cupola. The house has a lovely cupola also known as a 'widow's  watch' and this gives great views over the town, and trees permitting, the ocean. We would just ask that young children be accompanied when visiting it.

Cycling. Rockport is great for this and we welcome cyclists and their bikes. We can provide you with out of sight storage and  there is very little crime in Rockport anyway. You can hire bikes and Kayaks from the Kayak center. North Shore Outdoor Kayak center  This is on Tuna Wharf.

Dietary requirements. If you let us know ahead of time about food allergies and so on, we can generally accommodate you. Tobey is a pediatric nurse.

Eateries. There is a really good choice of eateries on Cape Ann to satisfy most tastes.  This varies to some extent by season, but whatever time of year you come there are some great eating places quite close.   Rockport comprehensive list of eateries from Chamber of Commerce site.   If you want something quick and informal, there are quite a few choices in season in the town. Nates at the bottom of our street is good both for lunch and dinner, and at the top of our street is Lo Grasso's that does good Italian.  The Hula Moon near the harbor does great wraps and other informal stuff. The Hong kong Kitchen on Railroad Ave is good, and they have a few tables to sit and eat though it is mainly a take out. Roy Moore lobster co is an institution and you can have lobster in the ruff.  ( Map   978 546 6696 ) The Fish Shack    ( Map   978 546 6667  )  in Dock square  is really good for sea food and most of their tables have a harbor view; their fried clams ( with bellies on ) are especially good, and the owner is a local lobsterman. Top Dog on Bearskin Neck does a wide range of hotdogs and more, it also has a real fun feel about it that kids, old and young, will appreciate! Restaurants that are more formal are: The Emerson Inn Grand Cafe, ( Map  978 546 9500, really nice ambiance and good food. )  My Place by the sea. ( Map   978 546 9667  Needs reservation. Fabulous location, ask for the terrace, and good food  ),   and Brackets on Main street, right next to the new Music center.  Gloucester has a range of dining options. Rocky neck is an interesting place to walk around and has some good restaurants. Back over Anisquam Bridge there is Lobstaland, that seems popular.   ( Map  978 281 0415 )    Up at the new Mall there is a Five Guys that does the best French fries we have ever had and great burgers and stuff. Fridge. There is a fridge for guest use on the second floor next to the ice chest, if you don't have a fridge in your room.

Getting back on 127 Take a right out of our car park, then a left at the top of the street; a few hundred  yards brings you to five ways corner and take the right which is 127 south. About 4 miles on 127 brings you to a large traffic light intersection , the right turn is 128 south. Map

General directions to airports and so on

Ice. There is a chest on the second floor that we keep topped up; we just ask that you don't fill your coolers as we cannot produce enough ice for everyone's cooler. The ice is just for room use.

Ironing. If you need to iron clothing we will set an ironing board in the office. Just ask.

Liquor store. There is one in Cape Ann market place, See Breeze Liquors 

Mail. If you have mail for collection, we leave outgoing on the main staircase. There is a post office on Braodway. Map    978 546 2667

Malls. Down 128 there is the Liberty Tree Mall and almost next to it, the North Shore Mall, almost everything there.  ( Map ) It's about 25 minutes.

Movies. There are two movie theaters close by, Gloucester cinema, Essex Ave ( Map   978 283 9188 ) Little Art Cinema, Rockport  978 546 2548     Blockbuster, 127 Eastern Avenue

Newspapers and magazines. There are a number of magazines in the sunroom and we get the local paper plus the Boston Globe. If you need other newspapers,  Cumberland farms carries quite a selection. Map

Parking. We have our own on site large car park and there is enough room for all guests.

Pharmacies. There is a rite-aide in the whistle stop mall, a few minutes walk up the street, ( Map   978 546 7521 ) and there is a Walgreens in Gloucester.  ( Map     978 283 7361 )

Pubs and Bars. Rockport doesn't have any, but you can get drinks with food in most Rockport restaurants. Gloucester though has quite a few bars, including the famous Crow's Nest of Perfect Storm fame. Map  The Dog Bar has live music each night.

Towels. If you need your towels replacing please leave the used ones on the Bathroom floor.

Trains. Top of our street is the commuter rail to Boston.  Schedule.

Walking. Rockport is a great place for walking. If you take a left out of the inn you will be at Front beach in a few minutes, and a few hundred yards past Front beach is Main Street, a real Norman Rockwell-type street that harkens back to the best of small town America. There is some lovely architecture to enjoy and quite few art galleries. [ The Art Association and new Music Theater or Shalin Liu Performance center are also there, halfway down. ]  If you go straight at the bottom of Main Street that brings you to Bearskin Neck, and you can walk to the end and observe the ocean on three sides.  If you take a right at the bottom of Main Street that brings you to South Street, and if you go up South Street you can take a left ( the first is Atlantic Ave ) that brings you back to the ocean. Marmion Way is a nice walk.

Alternatively Halibut State park, a few miles up Granite Street is a lovely walk through the park past the old water filled quarries and out to Halibut point. Anson Stimpson who built our house owned some of those quarries in the 1800's.
